So, im making a small bag for a friend, and making a strap for it, I only have like 1meter (3.2f) hide for it. And it needs to be a little longer. What is the best option?
I would think, I just but a 30degree taber on both ends, and sew it together. But is there any other options?
Like at some bags online, I found this. It clearly has a seam to the right. but it looks like 90degree?? Seams like a really bad idea?
@kilian If you look closely you can see two or three small bumps where the join is. These are internal hidden stitches that join the two parts of the strap.
You aren't seeing cut strap ends connecting, they are two lengths of strapping, stitched in the centre grain to grain, then folded back on themselves. This is why you are seeing the same grain layer on both sides of each part of the strap.
Does that make sense?
As for what to do, that comes down to your creative design abilities or ingenuity. Does is have to be leather?
I agree :) And that is for sure the best way. But buying a whole new hide, to make a longer strap, is to much I think
When I see a seam in a strap, I think its because to be able to save money by using smaller leather pieces, I could be wrong of course. If I would lengthen, I would incorporate another material, like a chain or Ring - Leather - Ring. Or Fabric strap with leather ends
