Does anyone have any experience with quilting patterns onto leather, for example for the front of a handbag? Can you do this by hand or would you need a sewing machine? Looking up some info online it seems you would just need a fine leather, some foam and lining to do patterns like in this example (which is a cannage pattern from Dior but the idea would be to create other pattern shapes)? It would be very nice to have a masterclass course that demonstrates this technique in more detail.

Hi Stephanie,
I hope Phill does not mind that I share this. There's a gentleman on YouTube that does car upholstery and he does a variety of quilting, padding, wrapping things in leather, etc. There isn't much in terms of explanation but you can get a pretty good idea of what he is doing because he shows the process step by step and from different angles. He does use a sewing machine but that is probably just to save time. Everything that he stitches can be done by hand and tens of hours.

and of course Phill has a course (no pun intended) on box making where he created a quilted insert. Also I remember Phill posting a "student success," instagram where a gentlemen from Turkey created a quilted lining for De Havilland Travel bag. The quilting added a truly luxurious high end detail / touch in the interior. Sorry couldn't find the post. But i'm sure it's there.
