Always loved the design of this bag but was intimidated by its construction. My hope was that I could incorporate everything I've learned (so far) here at leathercraft master class and those lessons were definitely a huge help. Don't think I could have pulled this off without knowing some of those brilliant tips and tricks.
Despite making several paper prototypes, and trying to take into account leather thickness, my gusset was still a bit too wide. I got it to work but there was some puckering / trimming required around the top corners. Assembly was surprisingly easy and would have been much easier had I worked out the proper dimensions for the gusset - again, it was only slightly off but as we all know, 1 or 2 mm can make a huge difference. I will be making another at some point and refining some of those areas that could use some improvement.
Made with Badalassi Carlo - Minerva Smooth and stitched with 432 Fil au Chinois bronze thread.

Thank you Philip, couldn’t have done this without some of the techniques I learned from your courses.
Definitely making another and planning on using a slightly firmer leather (thinking butero since I love it so much).
Wow, impressive! I think it looks better than the original. The leather definitely has more character to it. The original is a bit monochromatic with too much pigment.
