“Dog ears”
Hi everyone,
Anybody know how to cut and stitch
the leather for this simple sleeve for a Bic lighter so as to avoid the “dog ears” as the base?

Not that I know of. It's similar to what shoemakers do by covering a wooden last with masking tape, then using that to get a pattern.
It is popular to cover lighters with wet moulded veg-tan. There's nothing wrong with trying that, then wrapping it in very thin goatskin. With a little ingenuity you could make the whole thing seamless.
