I would like to make a desk pad (A1 size). I wanted to know how would you process?

1) What leather would you recommend: type, thickness...

2) A single unlined layer leather or a lined layer (leather + leather or...)?

3) If a lined layer, another layer between the two layers (cardboard ...)?

4) Painted edges?

5) Seams or not?

...

I imagined a vegetable leather above (thickness: 2-3mm) lined with the same vegetable leather below (thickness 2-3mm). To obtain a desk pad 4-6 mm thick. Edges creased and painted. Seams. However, I have the impression that vegetable leather will mark quickly... How to make it resists claws?
