Hi all!
I've made this pouch to carry the papers of my car.
For the first time, I used a piece of cork , since I wanted to mix some with leather and see how it turned.
I like the result quite much except for the edges: the edges of cork are a bit difficult to work with (especially when painting). The cork has a kind of canvas reinforcement which makes it difficult when sanding to prepare the edges to receive the paint. On the other hand, the leather edges don't look as I wanted, I used 3 layers of Vernis 600 (paint - heat - sand x 3) and finished with some bees wax. However it doesn't get shiny as I wanted. And this paint doesn't do well with alcohol.
- Cork: bought in Etsy (from a person in Portugal)
- Leather: Sully chèvre from Alran - navy blue
- Thread: YF 0.45 - black
- Irons: Crimson Hides - 3.25 mm (I will try to use others of 3.38 mm next time).
- Paint: Vernis 600 - black
Oh wow Maru, that pouch is beautiful I really love the print on the Cork fabric. I also love the colour combination 😍😍
Hola Maru!
This is beautiful! I've had that same cork in my etsy cart for like 2 months, but after seeing it on your wallet, I will definetly order some!
Really love the way you mixed the two materials.
Bravo!!!
Very nice @Maru Tuchi ! I've only ever used cork to keep my wine closed and my awls up 😄
But I really like experimenting with other materials and have always wanted to try cork. Stabilised birch bark has always interested me too..
What do you think about the long term durability? Do you think a sealer like acrylic resoline would work well?
Hi Maru, your pouch is beautiful! I love the use of cork! I have wanted to try to incorporate cork into a project. Your project motivates me to give it a try. Thanks for edges information. Good to know to be aware that edges could be an issue.
Very nice, I really like the print on the cork. I started making a bifold wallet with leather on the outer layer and cork on the internal layers. Because cork bounces back it did not want to stay folded. I will have to do a tab like your's to keep it closed. I bought mine from Springfield Leather.
My old house had cork as the kitchen floor and I miss it so much.
