Hi all!
I was hoping to ask for some help regarding issues i've been having related to my manual splitter.
Whenever I am trying to split down a strap to anything less than 1.5mm it often suddenly splits my piece down to 0mm and then i'm left with 2 useless strap pieces.
I know that the blade is sharp since I have no problem thinning belt turnovers or larger pieces to anything more than 1.5mm. The issue really seems to occur when i'm trying to split thinner.
This also happens when I set the thickness and then lock off the mechanism with the knob on the side of the splitter.
Has anybody out there experienced anything like this and has any advice?
Many thanks in advance!
@Leathercraft Masterclass I will definitely give that a go then! Thank you very much for the help!
@Fadi My splitter has a horizontal tension bar with a spring with i'm guessing it doesn't get close enough to the blade for the thinner pieces to make a difference.
Thank you both š
Yeah, i had that issue a few times untill I realised that I was actually pulling the strap up and fully into the blade.
Just do like Phil says, pull the leather down and also keep the part that is feeding into the blade down. I Think that the more expensive splitters actually have a horizontal bar installed just for this purpose
@Ivo Verhaar Try keeping the leather in front (before it meets the blade) down as you pull through. Use your non-dominant hand to do this.
For thin pieces I like to pull with equal tension on the top split (underneath) and the bottom split (above). If you just pull on the waste flesh split then it can encourage the piece to lift up into the blade and sever it.
