I've never worked with Shell Cordovan before, but it's quite the hype online. Who here has ever worked with it before, and if so: is it worth the very high price?
Honestly speaking, this is very subjective. All leather people will love shell cordovan as it surely is the patina god of leathers like Fadi mentioned. But then again a normal customer won't care unless they know their leather, which is rare. Some people want costly shit to stand out. So yeah, there is hype; but I don't think too much as long as the hype sells it well.
Stay away from it for bags and large projects. The patina at scale is too overwhelming.
Exactly what I always tell other crafters: Never expect to sell Shell Cordovan to a regular customer. Unless the client asks for it, don't even bother offering it. There is no way a person who has never heard of Shell will pay for it.
