Ok, thank you for your reply. The supplier said it is normal that it needs a lot of hard work to remove the milky surface and that I could use a hair dryer to warm the leather and make it easier. Adds a lot of time to a job! Perhaps I will try another supplier for a comparison.

So I am still having issues trying to get a good finish on my newly accuired bridle butt leather. Any advice would e much appreciated. The first 2 photos are the underside and is very stubborn. The other 2 photos are the topside. I can't seem to polish out the haze.

Thanks Philip, I appreciate the comments. I can't see myself taking the keeper out, I would certainly make a mess of it. Running keeper is coming and yes there is a little excess there. I still struggle with a few things. Once I have folded and stuck the top leather to the lining, I tend to have a hard job just cutting it out accurately once I get up next to the filler and lug end. Also rounding the point is still difficult staying on track. As for plans. Well, I only dream of hving plans at the moment. Much too much to learn at this point but I am ambitious so who knows!

I have made this strap with a fairly cheap embossed cow skin. I found this material very hard to work with as I believe the colour is only painted on the surface and it is a very soft leather. I am still struggling with making a neat job of sewing in the keep. Will keep trying.

Thanks, wayne.rogers, for your comments. 2 of the hardest things for me still, is just keeping the edge paint off of the leather and managing to keep the edge creaser in place going around the curved end of the strap. Practice makes perfect as they say.
