Leathercraft Masterclass for the Win

I had a brand that reached out to me and wanted me to make a toolbox-styled bag for a runway event. There were a lot of hurdles to overcome with this project and I found most of the answers here! I referenced "The Mini Leather Trunk", "The Art of Leather Wrapped Boxes", "The Making of a Post Handle" and a few more that I'm forgetting. Just wanted to share my appreciation for Philip and the courses. Even as a professional, they are an indispensable asset!

Phenomenal work! That's a really beautiful case. I love that you used multiple courses to create something completely unique to you. It really does look like a tool box, just a lot more elevated.

Thank you for sharing that with us!

Beautiful work! I've never seen salmon skin used as a lining before, I have to say it's really cool. Really nice work.

Did you do a direct glue-in with the lining, or just stitched in along the edges?

New bag...

I just finished my second bag... took what I learned in the Turrene course and tried something different...

Nice work Jeffrey, I love the colour! The Picotin is a nice relaxed design.

Domed Belt Advice

Im looking to create a domed belt but don't know the full construction in order to achieve said belt.

From what im assuming its a domed filler of some sort ie plastic domed strips or cardboard of some sort unless im completely wrong.

Could someone shed some light on this.

Much appreciated.

Hi Gavin. For handmade belts, the most popular filler for a raised centre section is going to be a strip of vegetable tanned leather, and some kind of synthetic non-stretch fabric backing. On very cheap belts you may see cardboard or rubber, but I wouldn't recommend it for durability reasons. Some also use bonded leatherboard, which can cut costs if bought in bulk.
