choosing the right anvil
I need an anvil for setting rivets into small interior areas on bags and help deciding what anvil to get. Tandy leather has a 2 pound "mini anvil", It's made for leather work but is it really heavy enough to do the job? I haven't seen anvils in any other of the leather tool suppliers that I frequent. Any input on anvil selection for leather work will be appreciated.

Oh ok, you literally mean like a Wile E Coyote type of anvil. I was thinking you wanted something small to fit inside tight spots and pockets etc.
As far as bending off-centre instead of compressing, you may want to hit more delicately, or use a lighter hammer. It comes down to feel and experience really, but too much weight or heavy hits often result in wondering shafts.
