Hi everyone, I was curious on people experiences and opinions on buttero bellies that walpier produce. I have no experience using bellies but obviously you would have to be mindful of what you use them for due to the fact they are bellies but for small goods that take no real stress (card wallets and the like) are they a viable option? Here in the UK you can pick them up for about £5.95 per sqft opposed to £7.38ish for normal buttero. Is the saving really worth it?
As always thanks so much
Daniel
For the difference of £1.43 per sq/ft, I probably wouldn't consider it. Bellies stretch more, are often harder to skive and aren't as durable as the hide along the back of the animal. A tighter grain is usually easier to work with. Saying that, I haven't tried buttero bellies myself.
Hey Daniel,
Sorry for not being able to answer from personal experience, but as far as I know, people use the bellies for wallets and, judging from their pictures, they're good. There's a particular artisan that I follow on instagram and I'm almost sure he stated that he uses them. So, I'd go for it. Besided, £5.95 is pretty good, may I ask where you saw that price? I'm not in the UK anymore but perhaps I can get a good deal as well.
Cheers
