As some of you may have seen, I opened the package from Abas live on Instagram a few hours ago and gave my initial thoughts both good and bad (still up until tomorrow 4pm BST).
What do I think of Abas hardware? Very good! Apart from mislabelling a 25mm trunk corner as 35mm (ask @Terry Millard!).
They seem to be producing much higher quality hardware than Abbey England who I've been using for 80% of my hardware supplies up until now.
The dinky little case lock below is solid brass with a nickel plating. Expertly polished and very smooth in operation. I'm looking forward to using it for it's intended purpose.
What do you think?
Cheers
Can anyone link to supplier? Thanks
I just realised I have 1 or 2 of their carabiners! They make top products, but I find them very limited in what they offer (at least, on their webshop).
I myself am more a fan of the Japanese style (Basically raw brass that will patina with time) of things, mainly because I still have not embraced the frenchman in me!
I’m impressed with ABAS hardware! The finish is smooth, polished and beautiful. The latches and lock fit together perfectly. The items weigh significantly more then other similar hardware. It is as close to luxury brand hardware as I’ve been able to find. ABAS customer service is great. They respond quickly to email and are helpful finding items not on their website.
I plan to use ABAS hardware for most of my “fine“ leather projects. I have also tried Japanese hardware from District Leather Supply and have found that to be wonderful too. It is different in style then ABAS hardware but similar in quality. I see Rocky Mountain Leather Supply is also starting to carry Japanese hardware.
