thank you for the comment, i am not sure of the name, i have some smaller pieces left, so i will take some good pictures and send them to alran, see if they can tell me what it is, hopefully they sell it as i haven't seen anything like it on their website

yes, it was probably slightly under 0.5 but they were glued together for the gusset. not sure how long it took him, but the 3d printed form is much better than the grey board one i made first. thanks to your courses, there are lots of elements i have picked up, like using ripstop nylon in the card holders to make it thinner. thank you

Thanks for the information on the lock, I had no idea about the history. I just like the look of them and they are a bit different. Yes, the 3rd picture is of the velvet, I have added another picture showing the silk lining of the zipped pocket. These are just offcuts I buy every now and then just for linings etc. still have some tweed to use for something as well.

Yes, it is a drop in lining, all in one and stitched around the top edge. Thought it would look better that way. Thanks. I keep looking for things for lining, I like using the non-suede side of pig skin suede if it is good enough. Think it has a very nice texture.

Ha ha, it was harder than I thought it was going to be, as it was blind, but no one can see the stitching on the inside as it is hidden by the lining, so that helped. Also, I wanted the gusset to bend out that way, so the strap holders would be outside th flap

i think just keep making different small things, so you can try different techniques, eventually things get easier and results get better. am trying to make a different bag at the moment, but not going to plan. will have a rethink

I have a splitting machine which I run the binding strip through. Think I aimed for about .8mm. I marked a centre line down the inside of the binding, glued it in place. Ran a line 2 mm on one side and about 3.5 the other. Just prick marked up to the line on the 2 mm side. Used an awl and aimed for the centre line on the other side. Hope that makes

Thank you, the edge binding hides lots of sins, and means I don't have to edge paint. Was probably quicker than edge painting

It was ok, did a test part of the area where the main pocket is folded on itself to see how much skiving I would need Not the correct colour for the piping, but same veg tan leather just to see how it would go together. I would think about how you plan to create it, write down the order in which to do it, and then don't be afraid to alter it as you go along, there are always things which change. Thinking about it now, I would probably use thicker piping if I was making it again and ge the leather for the front pocket thinned.

hi philip, i have quite a few of those punches from ali express, and they are really well made, extremely accurate for size (within 0.1mm). the slope of each side is consistent, so very easy to place where you want them to punch. a lot of punches including the cs osborne ones belly out, so much harder to position accurately. they will also make them to any size. the other ones to try are the round and oval punches they do which are straight sided ie no taper. their strap end punches are very good as well.

@sanders07 have to let us know how you get on with it, have thought about one a few times, but I have too many knives at the moment, although I still keep looking at the leather wranglers guppy knives - glad there is a long waiting list to put me off. i have a doldokki head knife which comes extremely sharp. i have quite a few tools from him now, and they are all very good, not cheap but good. i usually email him direct to get things, as that seems the best and cheapest way. i think his email address is carstylist@naver.com, you can ask him for a price list and maybe delivery times, all his prices are in US Dollars.

hi there, i use illustrator to work things out, i am lucky where i work that we have printers over 1m wide, so i will print out patterns here to make mock ups. the final patterns i make are all done by hand on card. not sure why, just prefer to do it that way.

thanks, i was contemplating putting bag feet in as well, maybe next time. will also look at more robust linings next time, i fear this will not like thing being put in and taken out of it a lot. where the flowers are woven i can see it coming undone. i did give a paper prototype to someone i work with who is petite, and she said to make it smaller, as i guess i was using myself to measure too. this is about 400mm across by 280mm high, the handles when they fall down are about 30 - 50mm from the floor. will give it to someone to see what they think. i am sure they will say it needs a pocket.
