Hello, want to share my first handle I made. Have to say I picked really complicated one like for first time. I need to practise awl stitching... And it was really hard to wrap the leather on handle. Maybe I chose too hard veg tan leather for this, its saffiano. All in all I am happy with the result🙂 🙂

So, today it happened to me:) I received an order to make a leather cover for a book. I got the measurements, everything seemed straightforward. I planned a simple project for a couple of hours in the evening, but unfortunately, it took a bit longer than I had anticipated. I crafted it as planned in two hours, but I still wanted to put it on the book and see how it would look. Luckily, I found a book on my shelf with the same dimensions, put the cover on, and what do you think? Too small? It fits on the book, but it doesn't close properly. Damn, I thought, I won't make a new cover; I need to come up with something to get out of this situation:) After scratching my head, the idea came to cut the cover into two equal parts and insert a narrow strip in the middle, the width of the book's thickness. I thinned the edges of the strip with a bell skiving machine so that the leather would nicely adhere to the book's cover where it bends. Thank you, Phillip, for convincing me that this tool is really handy and beneficial to have. And that's it,in my opinion, it turned out even better than in the first attempt. I'm attaching a few photos of how the first cover looked and the final corrected one. The lesson I learnt today. Stick to your plans and embrace creativity, even when unexpected challenges arise. Sometimes, mistakes and problems can lead to new and even better solutions. The key is to stay open to new ideas and not be afraid to experiment, as it can lead to extraordinary results. Happy crafting ant cut after measuring twice or eve more:)
