Hello leather masters, I have two questions about better edge finishing. The first issue is making an edge on soft leather where two layers that are not perfectly aligned come together. As an example, you can see in the picture below that a piece of soft leather was cut using a cardboard template. The leather is supposed to be folded and sewn along the edges, with a zipper in the middle. Since the rounded edges were made with a round knife, they are not completely straight (picture below). How do you best approach such details? Since the leather is too thin, sandpaper cannot be used. Is it best to cut the edge after the layers are sewn, or is there a better trick? For example, how do you suggest finishing an edge like this where the leather is very thin, is it best to leave it raw, paint it, or is it best to heat treat it? The second question is about the edge, on dyed leather. In the picture below you can see that two pieces of leather are sewn together and dyed with Fiebing's blue paint (the edge was also dyed). The edge was heat treated - a mixture of water and Water-Based Contact Adhesive, then rubbed with a cloth. However, there is a white line in the middle, which I assume is because the paint did not absorb into the glue. For example, how do you patch an edge where the paint does not adhere to the glue? On the lower part of the edge, you can also see that where the glue is (in the middle), the edge is not well polished/finished. How to approach this problem? Thank you for your tips and tricks! Have a nice day!

Hi, I have a problem with my stitches. The problem is that the stitches are not aligned nicely, but are dancing (a little up, a little down). For example, I use the following pricking iron: • Hexagon pricking iron • Pricing iron tooth size 2mm • Distance between prickin iron tooths 3mm I used thread of thickness 0.45mm. The last product I had a problem with was a wallet, about 4mm thick. I used the guitar technique when sewing (right hand down, left hand up). I'm using that kind of sewing clamp: https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-e77e4/images/stencil/1280w/products/7118/60972/Leather_Stitching_Pony_w_clamp__39370.1707874680.jpg Below is a picture where you can see the stitch (dont look at cornes and other mistakes, the only plan was to test the stitching line and align it). I used the pricking iron to pierce the leather all the way through. On one side I sewed as the pricking iron did, on one side I used a diamond owl to enlarge the hole from the sewing side, and on one side I used a diamond owl to create a hole from the back. All the stitches have the same problem (back of of the wallet is better vs the front), so I can probably rule out the hole problem. Maybe it's because of the thickness itself? What can I do in this case? If it is not, any idea or recommendation for a straight stitch? Thank you very much!

Hello to everyone, which water-based contact adhesive would you recommend for purchase in central Europe? I can't find any in my country and the price for the Aquilim 315 (Amazon/ebay) is very high. Another question, in my cuntry is PVA promoted as contact for wood, is that the same or? Thank you and have a nice day!

Hellow leather-masters. My name is Clement and I have completed the beginner course. I'm good at working with my hands, so I want to learn something new. Now I'm thinking about whether to continue with the next courses or not - I'm mainly struggling with which plan to choose. My country doesn't have a good supply of tools and leather, so it can take a month or so before I get the right stuff. This website is very sparse on which tools are needed for which things - for the main courses. Am I wrong and have I overlooked something, or is it described somewhere for individual projects which tools (and leathers) are needed? I checked "Tool Buyer'sGuide" and "Recommended tools for the beginner". But when I looked at the preview videos for certain projects, completely different tools are used. My plan is to get the necessary tools and then continue the course (less postage and time costs). Thank you - your beginner course is very detailed, maybe you could add some beginner mistakes and what to do to fix them. Have a nice day!
