A slight variation on this about skiving papers etc please? What about the 2500 grit paper like on the recent U-tube to sharpen French Edger, can this be used for the skiving knife? The stones tend to rust a little. The only problem is in Bunnings can only find 1200 grit paper. ( is the lighter grit okay) ( I am in Australia ) I struggle to sharpen the knives . I certainly cant get it really sharp . My hubby does a bit better on it for me, but he says can he sharpen it on the grinder in the shed. But I thought that may damage the knife? I have dodgy hands that get painful a bit. I thought maybe the paper better but hard to find , I saw one role online for expensive $69 from auto repairs direct. Any ideas or where to find please? Apparently I may be able to get that in a sheet of A4 says my hubby . I would like to sharpen the French edger's with it and the other knives if it is ok to use with that ? I do have the cheap diamond plates but would they be better with oil so don't rust? Thank you in advance Anne Embrace OzBags

Hi , thinking the PVA be best glue to use on the all in one gusset. Or the water based solvent . Have cotton to glue in so it wont stretch as it is a soft slouchy bag. I think PVA what others thoughts please? Thanks Anne

Hi Philip , Fadi and everyone here is the photos of a rough mockup of the bag. I have put the Kangaroo leather I plan to use . I have done a fabric version but the handles were put on the top later so just tacked on so please ignore them please . Showing this to show roughly how I will put the zip inn. The gusset also was too bulky down the base corners and didn't line up so plan to put this as continual one piece to include the sides and base. the lining is stabilised / stiffened with commercial iron on stabaliser that has a cotton weave to it. My friend wants the bag soft and slouchy so only wants me to stiffen the base a little. This bag is done in a thicker cheap offcuts. The pockets are lined up to meet like my dress making skills , but I would skive these and offset to sweep the under pocket curving to meet just under the outer pocket in the seam so to decrease bulk but still look the same. Hope that makes sense. I lined the pockets with scrap leather on the front but makes it too bulky so could do a thin leather or stabalised cotton. So wondering if I attach the handle to each end of bag on gusset. How could I ensure it is stable on the leather to hold weight as there will be no seam across the base. Should I attach on outside with studs and stitching , thread through like havelock bag , or put into the seam on opposite sides so hangs nice on the right shoulder, or other ideas please? Would want to damage stretch the Kangaroo out of shape. Unless I put anther piece of leather inside it and glue it on inside the bag and run non stretch tape down to that? Thanks for the answer Philip, I am sorry just read article on google , just checking if was correct or not. Not sure where it was now as was just a random google search . They were talking about lining wallets and be carful not to let them get too wet. The local leather place said to use Cobble Stone Leather Sealer on natural pig skin that is untreated. It says I can die the pig skin and mix in with the sealer . If not just seal it for white finish. Or should I use something different such as Resolene. This is a family business and been here over 30 years so the father of the family recommended this product, what are you thoughts please, Thanks Anne

Hi I am just starting out but, due to my hands having some problems I use a Cobra 26 Sewing industrial cylinder arm, which that can add a optional flat table . I certainly admire the hand sewing and easier I think to get get more precise placement of stitches by looking at it. But the Cobra goes at a very slow speed 1 stitch at a time slow if needed, or fast up to 2000 stitches if your game ( But that is not really suitable for leather work). It can sew from fine lambskin leather to 13 mm . It can also sew upholstery fabric as well . This is the smallest of the Cobra as there is 2 larger ones for saddlery work or heavier products. But I have this due to hand sewing much leather may be problematic for me.

Zip Pull Spoon and fork that my hubby Paul made for me, slide the back of the tape in the top of zip pull in fork . Saves fighting for ages with zips to get them threaded on. I like the spoon best the angle bend works so easily for my zips. Hop this helps.

Hi do you mean tools to help slide the zip slides onto the zip tap . I had my hubby bend an old spoon head and cut a slip in the centre to a size 5, which is the size I can get here. Face the spoon face down and mount into block of wood so it stand up in the air. I then can side it on really easy. I haven't managed to get the zip stops yet so not sure on the pliers. ( I hope that makes sense?)
