At the moment I use a squeeze marker to apply diluted tokonole which increases speed and accuracy of application. Its call a grog marker and you can pick then up for a couple of quid. I can't remember where is saw the idea but I've used it ever since 😊

Hey Yiggort, I have got a tub of the brown but in all honestly was a little underwhelmed with it. I found that the colouring wasn't quite dark enough to really make a huge difference (something the black probably doesnt have a problem with) I was recently thinking about experimenting with using a water based dye to colour neutral tokonole as it's water based itself. If I end up doing it I will keep you posted on my results 🙂

Hey Flavio, long time no speak I hope all is well with you 🙂 yeah and various sources say about using them for light leather goods and I love pretty much anything walpier produce. It was from AAcrack average size is around 10ft so plus vat looking at about £70 but their minimum order was 2 skins so £140 felt a bit high to take a punt on without seeing if anyone had experience with it 😅🤣 thanks so much for your thoughts I will see if I can find anything on insta.

Yeah I agreed that while replicating something for personal use is completely different from having it as a business model. The thing I find interesting is that he says "learn how to make some of the most famous bags in the world" rather than "learn to make a Kelly", as you (Phil) already mentions above brands copy each others designs all the time. Almost every brand has a Kelly clone yet I am yet to see Hermes sue any of them, and while it is a bit heavy handed I would imagine Hermes intentions were probably for it to act as a deterrent to others rather than actually caring about the money 🤷‍♂️ I also feel that if this was a brand using machines and computers I would probably be more sympathetic to Franc however, Hermes still employs skilled artisans to hand make their bags which makes it a little closer to home for a leatherworker.

Personally I dont think there is such a thing as being too particular in leather work 🤔 hmmm how about edge painting one or two coats then crease then applying a final coat? So you have minimal handling between creasing and the final coat? Obviously I havent put this into practice but just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Hiya, quick question. What is it about the edge painting that is making the crease less defined? Is it that you arent going back over at the end? I crease in between stitching and edge painting. Simplified process is as follows Glue up Stitch Sand the edge Edge crease Edge paint Drink a cup of tea 😄

Hey Michael, as far as I'm aware they were still trading but I ordered some non stretch tape about 8 or so month ago so not a recent order really. When I ordered it did take them a little while to despatched so hopefully it's just a delay. Dont hold me to it but I think it's a bit of a side hustle for the guy who runs it so maybe hes running a bit behind. I hope your stuff turns up 🤞

Hey Cindy, I'm really glad to hear you have found one that's a better fit 😊. I havent had any problem with the end cap being too heavy and I dont have pinky rings on any of my awls. Personally I would be tempted to persevere and gain the confidence and technique of using it without a pinky ring, but obviously it's completely down to you as there is no right or wrong way. With this type of awl I have it a fraction higher in my hand so my little finger curls around the bottom. I took a couple of pictures (that also have my antique morris chair in 😅) I hope that helps.

Hey Frank, sit down and get a coffee you have opened a can of worms. I the same as you believe in buying quality tools and am lucky enough to own tools from makers like KS blade, Palo Santos and MCN mauls ... believe me the list goes on. I honestly have found that the higher end tools dont really do anything a more affordable tool wouldnt do. For example believe it or not I actually use my Abbey England pricking irons over my KS blades. Abbey's are a 2, 5, and 10 pronged iron for £40 and the KS are currently £180 for a 2 and 10 pronged. In my opinion the abbey's are sharper and easier to remove from the leather. So more money doesnt always mean better performance however people rave about KS blade (I'm not hating on KS just using as an example). It's also worth mentioning that a lot of brands like Wuta dont make their own tools they just have preexisting patterns branded with their logo. This basically means there is a a huge variation in price for the exact same tool. Below are two links one is a Wuta edge crease and the next is the unbranded version of the exact same tool. The wuta is double the price and I assure you this is the exact same tool as I ordered both to test 😅. Hey Frank, welcome to the forum matey. Yeah as Phil said in simple terms the bevel was designed to take the sharp edges off the corners of leather to minimise damage of any impact that might happen (very similar to wood working) and the crease is said to have been originally used to compress the fibres of the edges to minimise moisture absorption as the edges are kinda like the end grain of leather however, the crease has become more of a decorative detail these days me thinks.
