Decided to give a card holder a try, since a) I’m stuck at home, b) @Leathercraft Masterclass has a great class on how to do one, and c) my store bought one fell apart. Oh, and to justify my recent spending spree on alligator and Croc from American tanning (damn their evil sales!!) by using at least one leg of one hide 😂🐊🐊🐊🐊. Made from aforementioned American Tanning glazed mandarina alligator, cash pocket lined with black calf, and card slots lined with some beautiful teal silk twill left over from another make. Stitched in 532 Fil au Chinois using KL 3.00mm French style irons, with custom mixed edge paint (red + orange Uniters, from RM Leather Supply).
it always amazes me how many tools and steps it takes to make something so small and ’simple’. There’s nowhere to hide in simplicity. Other side note; I used the legs of the hide. I know some people consider them scrap and don’t use them, but I actually like the patterning on the legs and hate waste. To keep the alligator stable, I lined using a self-adhesive reinforcement fabric (also from RMLS). Won’t be doing that again - worked perfectly well as an interfacing, but was a *@%!& to stitch through, and gummed up my beautiful KL irons.
Last pic is my stitching moral support buddy.

Hi all, decided to have a go at making a work apron, based on Phil’s great tutorial. Drafted the pattern to fit my dimensions, and hand stitched the apron out of SB Foot leather, with a deep brown alligator trim. The top also has a strip of veg tan behind the alligator to give some body. The hardware is some antiqued brass I had lying around that I probably salvaged a while back from something else. Thread is Fil au Chinois, 532 in beige, with my new Kevin Lee 3.00mm stitching irons (those things are shaaaarp! hypothetically, they cut if you brush them against the side of your index finger....)

In Say Hello Before Posting
Hi all. My name is Brontë, and I greatly appreciate the passion and knowledge around leatherwork that is shared here! I’m an expat Aussie living in Philly, Pennsylvania, and I really enjoy designing and making things, and working with people to solve a need or problem. My day job is finance, which helps fund my increasing fascination with leather craft :) I used to do a lot of couture-style sewing, and a lot of those techniques translate surprisingly well, especially the ’engineering’ and pattern drafting aspects. I enjoy designing and making small goods from scratch, such as duffels, bags, clutches , belts, organizers etc. Since I work in the corporate world and travel a lot, what I make tends to be focused on the intersection of thoughtfully useful and elegant. I’ve been making for friends and family for a couple of years now, however, am in the middle of transitioning to building a small business working with clients on custom orders (working with my first client now - exciting and terrifying! :) I also share my work on both Instagram (mo2couture) and leatherworker.net (motocouture) (Phil - apologies if this isn’t the right place to share those contacts), and I’m more than happy to share my (limited!) knowledge if anyone has questions.
Thanks all again for the dedication to the craft. Regards, Brontë
