I would probably look to a commercial leather cleaner such as the ones made by Uniters. However, that may cost you more than another piece of leather.
If you are using a waxed leather, saddle soap and water on a cloth should remove it - probably.
It happened to me once or twice.
I think the best thing to do would be to try to apply a balm and hope it will make the mark fade a bit.
