Help From The Community

Bought my firs 3 small alligator hides ever, and I noticed that the edges of the "scales" could peel off a bit when I fold the hide horizontally (or perpendicularly?). Is this normal? Or did I happen to receive some inferior pieces?

I intended to make some wallets and if they do peel off or stick out, it'd be a problem. Any input or suggested remedies?
