hi, made a money clip wallet out of some scraps of goatskin. tried some edge paint samples i got from metropolitan leather. was pretty tricky to apply, although i did it with an awl, dont have any applicators, so that could be why.
happy with it, although i think the .45mm thread looks a bit thin for the 3.37 pricking iron. ordered some in .55mm. i also did the linings first, so could only crease on the bottoms of the card slots. i put some interfacing inbetween the leather as well to try and stiffen it slightly, although not sure if it made a difference.
working on a cover for a notebook next and a sleeve/envelope for a small laptop. just trying to get it all together in illustrator where i can work out all the stitching positions and overlaps.
hopefully get it all finished and printed out this week. might look at doing mockups in cinema 4d to make sure everything works first.
hi Philip,
yes, got a couple of benches in there, and room for 1 more when needed, so all good. i think i will be lining it as well over the next few weeks just to keep it as warm as possible. just need to make some storage, so i will be watching your upcoming video on this, as i still have things in boxes.
thanks for all the comments and videos - looking forward to the bag making and lining
hello, its been a while since i have made anything, as usual work gets in the way. anyway, had a shed put in the garden, so have been setting up benches etc. this is the first thing i have made where virtually all of it was using an awl. i am left handed so have been struggling getting a nice shape to the stitches in the other side. since this done some rows of stitches without casting, and they have some shape. seems as simple as that.
i made this wallet out of calfskin and goatskin. i also used some very cheap scraps of embroidered silk linings which i bought off ebay for £3. i glued the silk all over to the calfskin, but not sure if its better just to glue top and bottom into the turned edges? happy with the first attempt at stitching with an awl,
although a few stitches are a bit wayward.
seems to cover it ok, although it is quite tight. i think a couple of mm more on the height top and bottom would help, although when the new plastic £20 notes come out, they are smaller than the paper ones, so should be ok for the future. i have always liked the money clip wallets, so i am glad i made one. although asthetically, i think 3 card slots each side would look better - odd numbers always seem to be better in design.
Thanks for the link Philip, will look at getting some edge paint and something to apply it with. (will look at the 2 videos again).
here you go, hope these are what you are after
Looks great, Paul. Would love to see a couple of shots of the wallet with cards and bills, if you are willing. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply, good to hear any comments, as it is only the 6th item I have made.will have to look at more items I guess, see about thread thickness.
Using it from today, so see how it goes over time. Will probably make another at some point with a few tweaks. Might make it with 6 slots next time. I only ever use 4 slots, so that's why it was made with 4.
Nah Mate, they 0.45mm thread is not too small :) I usually pair the 0.45mm with the 3.85mm irons.
Plus, remember, you are doing a "classy european fancy Oh La Laaa" piece, so the i think the thread size you used works perfectly well.
Looks good, keep grating 👌
