I've got orders (well, requests from family) for two handbags which are slightly larger than the ones I previously made. I'm not sufficiently confident to design one from scratch and so I am on the road of using a pattern from someone else - undoubtedly making a few changes.
My customers (non-paying) have been shown various designs and, without knowing the maker, have both plumped for a design based upon the Kelly bag from Hermes. I'm going to be using some baby pink saffiano for the exterior; burnt orange Cordura for the interior and hardware from leathercraftpattern.com.
The purpose of this post is to ask if there is interest in me taking photos of the build? Please don't think that these photos and script will be good enough to use this as a guide for yourself but there may well be things in there that you will know not to do in the own make.
As ever, I've got a lot of things on the go at the moment including finishing a very large coffee table from live edge London Plane and making two or three hall tables from English oak, so progress may be slow. But this weather is better in my craft room than in my workshop
I'm looking to use these materials:
Saffiano. I bought this from "buyleatheronline" which is an Italian company. As far as I know good from bad, I'm happy with the quality. However, just beware of the prcies shown per hide as you have to add on taxes and carriage; it adds up
Cordura. I usually use pig, lamb or goat skin but wanted to try something different. This Cordura (bought from AE Market here in the UK) doesn't feel as soft as skins obviously but I have to say that i like the feel.
Hardware. From leathercraftpatterns.com. Again, never been disappointed - its all been very high quality stuff. I think its available in different finishes but look them up. Daniel is a very nice, very helpful guy. I will be buying two more D loops per bag so that I can permanently attach a handle and offer a ring for a longer shoulder strap
Yes, please! More photo more virtual exposure to different objects and projects! Thanks and good luck!
Yes, I would love it if you shared photos and elements about the process. I am a beginner and will gladly absorb it all!
