Welcome to the forum. I work all over northern Alberta but live more central.
Tandy in Edmonton is a good spot for beginer inspirations. They will have all you need to get started on whatever project you choose to do. Also visit Buckskin Leather. They have alot more leather in stock and the staff are very knowledgable and able to answer the questions you will have. For online or mail order I haven't found a Canadian supplier that is a one stop shop. I tend to order from Rocky Mountain Leather.
Before spending any money though, you should decide on the project you'd like to try. Start another post asking for advice specific to that project. The good and knowledgable people here will help with ideas for tools and the best material to use on that project. You'll be able to make well informed decisions.
