Hello,
so I'm Daniel. I'm a seemingly normal bloke from Sweden who's moved to Norway. I'm a fiberoptics-technician as a cover during daytime and by night i let the leatherworker in me out, stitching wallets, in the cover of the dark. It's a tough life, but someones got to do it!
Really tho, I started this hobby a year ago when I wanted to make a handbag for the girlfriend (now wife, yey us!). It became a handbag and a wallet, then a wallet for myself, then 2 more wallets for 2 friends and so on and so forth.
I've recently started trying to brand my things under Sæfe Threads (@saefethreads on instagram) and I have a goal for 2019 to sell one item to one person that I dont know from before :) Well see how it goes, but i really like the craft and i LOVE how every little struggle teaches me something new!
Nice to get to know you guys!
Hello Daniel! Thank you for joining us here on the forum.
Yes it is a great hobby to have and very profitable when you build a reputation.
I completely understand the whole friends and family thing. Their heart is in the right place, but really they are investing in you rather than the product. So it's difficult to know if you are getting it right until people start buying your products - for the product.
It is a challenge to see this as a success at first but it is always stage one of the process that will nearly always happen, but it definitely helps to give you momentum.
When you do make an outside sale, you will know that you have moved on the the next stage.
That being said, no friends or family have ever bought my leathercraft video tutorials 🤣 No love there then!
Phil
