I’ve been a casual interloper here, and as I finally made a couple of my first posts yesterday, it’s been called to my attention I should do the gentlemanly thing and introduced myself. It’s a pleasure to join y’all.
My name is JT and I have been learning leather craft for just a year and a half now. Like a few others I’ve seen, I started my first project while I had some down time - in my case that was a tough surgery after a running injury. It took one simple project for me to get the bug and head right back to the tool shop, then dive into something bigger.
Since then I’ve been working nights and weekends trying to get sharper. I don’t wish to make a business out of this, but perhaps the hobby could turn profitable in the medium future... My interest is in quality over quantity, so I hope to continue working on custom requests a couple at a time for years to come and imagine myself one day being a quiet old veteran of the craft making high quality bags for a small handful of people interested in seeking me out.
I love fine details, obsess over process, and have some grand idea about mixing European luxury techniques with rugged American leathers. It just seems like the world could use a few creased turned edges on waxy pull-up leather. 🤷♂️
For what it’s worth, I currently live in Oregon, USA and am on Instagram at @newcomer_roads
@jt.newcomb Welcome JT!
Thank you very much for taking the time to introduce yourself and share your journey with us here.
