Hello,
I recently bought a nice piece of calf leather from Conceria La Bretagna which was sold as purple. The thing is purple is not my favourite so the blame is on me for making the purchase..
Anyways, I wonder if anybody has tried darkening leather before with some product like a cream or similar stuff.
In the past I had a leather conditioner that was basically beeswax with some other medium mixed into it and it did a nice job but I haven’t found anything similar and don’t want to spend money trying out products.
Can anyone recommend me something that is not overly oily?
Many thanks!
Darkening leather can be a tricky process, but we can definitely help. I recommend using a leather dye to darken the leather without making it overly oily. You'll need to apply the dye in thin coats and test the color in between coats until you get your desired shade. Also, make sure to use a good-quality brush and protective gloves while applying the dye.
Thanks, Philip. I think I’ll try neatsfoot or mink oil. Based on pictures I’d seen, it might give the best results.
If I do, perhaps I’ll post a before and after here in the forum.
Thanks!
Hi FF
A couple questions:
Veg-tan or chrome?
Aniline, semi-aniline, or pigmented? (test, does water darken the surface quickly?)
