For those of you who have a skiving knife similar to this one, do you have a secondary bevel or just a primary bevel? I have a primary bevel and find it extremely difficult to keep the entire plane flat on the sharpening stone when sharpening. I've thought having a secondary bevel would make sharpening much faster and easier. Anyone have similar challenges? Tips?

Hi Philip , thank you will try the windex . So the sandpaper is just for the French edger's only ? Will have to keep hunting for the 2500 grit.
Thanks Anne
I keep only the primary bevel. A secondary bevel will make the edge less likely to chip and easier to sharpen. But because it's such a short bevel, it will also make it more difficult to maintain it at the same angle with consistency. The wider the bevel the easier it is to keep flat. Eventually you will have to take the blade to a grinder. In the end, what really matters is that the edge is sharp.
Just a primary on mine, but if you are already shallow, say 12 degrees or under, having a 15 degree secondary bevel should be fine.
Check to see if your sharpening plates are completely flat. Any warp and it makes it difficult to remove an even amount of metal.
