Hi all!
I'm looking for a permanent double sided tape, does that exist? I need to glue a tiny leather piece under the lining to cover a metal part, contact ciment is too smelly to me and water based glue seems ephemeral in the long run. What do you guys think? Greetings!
Hi Nabil!
I haven't tried the double-sided permanent tape, so I can't really speak to its qualities, but based on what Fadi said, I think that it would work for your purpose.
It is probably a toss up between the two. I would just use what I have available.
Greetings from Hanover!
Hi Nabil,
I think Mando has it. Check out this link: https://mando.fr/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=1980. It is difficult to tell if it is the same one, but it sure does look like it.
Thank you for your answer Fadi ! I think i wasn't clear enough..
I do not want to glue leather to metal (which to me, sounds like a blaspheme), but leather to leather to cover a metal part under the lining for protection. Here is an Hermès picture, they use simple tape to cover the metal part, i want to do the same thing but with a leather piece and double sided tape for better protection..
Ps: I heard about Ted's tape, would that work for my application and do you know where can i find a supplier in Europe? Thank you again!
Hello,
This is advertised as permanent, and I can vouch for their bonding strengh:
However, I would really advise to get some good contact cement, a mask (so that you do not breather the fumes and the smell) and use that. The reasons being:
1- From what I understand, you are gluing leather to metal. For this, nothing will have as strong a bond as Solvent Based contact cement.
2- The double sides tapes above, allthough they have a strong bond on leather to leather, I personally have never tested them for Metal on Leather.
3- Since you are gluing and not stitching, you would need the strongest bond you could hope to achieve so that the liner never comes loose. That will, again, be obtained from Solvent Based Contact Cement.
As a side note, Phil will agree to that I think, the smell of Solvent Based Cement is an aquired taste. Soon enough, you will not want to glue with puny water based glues and other non smelly bonding materials :p
