Hi people!, So it's my time to go toe to toe with zippers.
So im designing this wallet. This is the second prototype. Nerly there. So I made a wood block, to put inside the wallet, to align the zipper. But, its still looks kinda bad. So, my new idea, after searching the internet, is to make a block, with a 5mm slit ind the middle, to help me center the zipper.
And here comes my question. Should the block, be 100% same size as the template? or just a little smaller/bigger?
Also, is 1.5cm/3/5 inches thickness of the block standard size or?
Zipper is a little wonky :D
Ahhhh that is good! Glad it worked well!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Okay so I made som progress. Got a mold made, and its working fine. This is the second time with zipper, so still learning a lot.
New problems arise now :D Im using 0.6mm leather for lining. And its adding up to 6.6mm to stitch. I really need I skiving machine. Anyone have any other tips? I mark with prikling iron, and awl through it, but I can't use a clam. so its SUPER hard to awl straight
@Daniel W. I thought of your project when I ran across this video, which shows how to make a form to aid in installing a zipper on a curve. See what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z5cjtM7KeM&t=10s
@Daniel W. Looks like you may want to divide up the pleats more going around the curves to avoid the ripples. I would try using double sided tape and craft foam so that you can play around with different techniques before committing to leather.
I have similar questions, too, Daniel. Hope the zipperistas ring in with answers for us.
I like your wallet design. When you get it all figured out, about how long do you think it will take to make one?
Thanks for posting.
