Hello there - I am a new poster - having listened to the podcast it has got me thinking about thread types. I am looking to buy a selection to try. Does anyone have any interesting suggestions?
Rocky Mountain Leather Supply has a large selection of thread makes and types to choose from. They sell them in small spools so you can sample without laying out a lot of cash. www.rmleathersupply.com
Thanks very much everyone. I have been using Ritza Tiger 25 but don't especially like it. The UK market is pretty sparse from what I can see. Getting Viymo would cost a lot and take a long time to get here but I want to give it a go,
@charlesbrooker There is an etsy supplier of smaller vinymo spools from russia, this might be more worthwhile for smaller amounts than ordering from japan.
Etsy: Etsy.com/shop/vinymorussiaYou can find him on instagram too: vinymorussia
- Polyester thread: Viymo (Japan)- Linen: Sajou Lin Cablé (France)
There is one other thread that I use for bagmaking (specially on the gussets), as i find it to be the strongest one i know (also the ugliest :D). Ritza Tiger thread
Interesting comment a la Ritza thread, Fadi. Please explain. The bright colors are a bit disappointing, because they are turn a lighter tint as you stitch. I am not wild about the pallet but I do like the browns and cream. I like the way the thread lays flat.
@piperdally What can I say, I just do not like the way it looks at all! I use to stitch only with Ritza when I started and the more I try and see new threads, the more I find the Ritza to be a thread that does not appeal to me visually.

Hello Charles.
I would try and get a small spool or sample of all the threads you can get hold of.
Then practice stitching on various pieces of leather, soft, firm, textured, smooth etc.
By the end of your testing you will find the one that suits your needs best.
I personally use the following 90% of the times:
- Polyester thread: Viymo (Japan) - Linen: Sajou Lin Cablé (France)
