Great Minds! I’m looking for guidence. I’ve come across a hide of fullgrain, unfinished, dyed through white, chrome-tanned calf-leather.
I’m wondering how these hides will age, will they patina like veg-tan, only slower? Or would they just wear like any other chrome-tanned hides?
Reading online has’nt been perticularly helpful, just people fighting 😂 in forums.
Many thanks

Good quality chrome tanned leather is extremely long lasting. The issue is, the vast majority of cheap leather products are made with low quality chromed leather. It is more cost effective to use (and easier to machine stitch) than vegetable tanned leather, so it seems all chrome tanned leather is guilty by association, and lumped into the 'chrome = crappy' category.
While it doesn't have tannins that react and darken with age, you should make sure some kind of surface finish is used such as Resolene. Otherwise white unfinished chrome will be susceptible to dirt and oils darkening it, and not in a charming vintage way.
Does "come across" mean seen or acquired?
